This week’s foodie find is about healthier eating. I decided to wait until the end of January to “get healthy”. I am by no means any kind of dietician or nutritionist, but I do know what works for me. I have been participating in the Weight Watchers program since 2008.
I bake a LOT of desserts, and I do my best not to indulge too much, but I have to try what I make. So I am making an active effort to hold myself more responsible for the foods I eat.
Now that you know a little bit more about me, here are some snacks that are going to help keep me on track. Most of them are from Trader Joes or Whole Foods because I shopped in both of those stores recently. If you are interested in more specific nutrition facts, please leave me a message in the comments or send me an email!
Trader Joes makes these mini Pita pockets which are going to be my afternoon snack. They are only 1 WW point each. I can stuff them full of veggies or maybe some light cheese or low calorie peanut butter. Today I added a tablespoon of hummus.
Trade Joes offers a huge selection of flavors of hummus. They are only $1.99 each, which in my opinion is one of the best deals on hummus out there. It took me a long time to discover that I actually liked hummus. I usually stick with a roasted tomato flavor of some sort. It’s really good with carrot sticks as well! You just have to watch how much you eat, because it’s 1 point per tablespoon.
For me, it’s all about portion size. I have to be able to control it. Trader Joes makes a great small bag of popcorn that is only 3 points each. I also have found some great popcorn in my local grocery store that come in the small serving bags as well.
I saw these but I choose not to buy them. Has anyone tried them? I received some Lentil chips from my Foodie Penpal a couple months ago, which were actually pretty good.
Okay, this has got to be one of the best gluten-free chips I have ever tried. These are sweet potatoe tortilla chips. I found them at Whole Foods, the brand Late July has about 8 different flavors, and they were only $2 a bag. However, this is on my red light list. They are too good for me to have around because I ate the whole bag in two days.

Just an FYI, I saw a Trade Joe’s version of gluten-free all purpose baking flour, it was half the price of Red Mill. I am not sure if this is new or not, but I have never seen it before! Please let me know if you have used it for baking!
Lastly, because this blog is mostly about desserts, I won’t leave you hanging. Trader Joe’s has some of the BEST small portions frozen desserts. Just a few bites to enjoy the taste without worrying about the calories. These range from 70-120 calories and 3-7 grams of fat. They are 2 or 3 points each. The mint chocolate cookies ice cream sandwiches are out of this world amazing
I am in a major food-funk and I need some ideas to keep me on track. Please tell me what you are eating to stay healthy!

It all looks so good…and you’re totally teasing me bc we don’t have a TJ’s near us!
Can you imagine if they opened an online store? I did not grow up around a TJs either, but now I am hooked! Thanks for stopping by Julie!
