Happy New Year! I am declaring today as the last official day to say “Happy New Year”, I mean realistically, it should be January 3rd in my opinion, but people are still saying it to me, so up until today, I have said it back.
I wanted to start 2013 with a new kind of Foodie Finds, which I will be mixing in every now and again. The best part about traveling is getting to try new restaurants, right? Well a couple months back, I got to go to Old Towne in the city of Orange, CA. I worked in Irvine for two years; little did I know this little gem of a city was a mere 20 minutes away.
I really wish I had more time to spend there, because this really is such a foodie town. Within the first 5 minutes of walking down the street, there was at least a half dozen places I wanted to go eat; the crepe joint across the street was literally calling my name.
The main purpose of my trip was to visit The Perfect Circle Cupcakery, 2011 FoodNetwork Cupcake wars winner.

This is the last Monday before Christmas; it’s crazy. Well, I guess technically next Monday is the last Monday before Christmas, but I don’t count it as a day I can get something done, I should be finished by then (hopefully). This is one of my favorite weeks of year. I see this week being full of wrapping gifts, baking, baking and some more baking, following by lots of eating! This is, however, the last Monday of Foodie Finds for 2012.
This past week, I stopped in at Trader Joe’s; I don’t know why I don’t go more often. Their food is so affordable, and they are always stocking the shelves with new food items. This week my mission was to see what types of holiday foodie items they had.
Melt in my mouth
Right when my shopping buddy and I walked in the door we were greeted with barrels of Cocoa Drizzle Kettle Corn and Chocolate covered Sea Salt Butterscotch caramels. Chocolate, sea salt, caramel; sold.
Hi there! It seems like everywhere I go these days I am whipping out my phone for new Foodie Finds! This week, I braved the asiles of Walmart; it took me about two days of preparing. I grew up on Walmarts, not Targets, but since moving out west I have been spoiled by Target. The Walmart in my area is SO crazy that I actually try and avoid it all together.
Walmart Foodie Finds
I did find a few good things there, and their bakery section is larger than any grocery store around, so I guess that is a huge plus. I found some new Snack Packs! This time, it was Apple Pie a la Mode. Has anyone tried this? I love apple pie too much to try it. Candy cane taffy! I am also not a huge taffy fan, but I saw a similar item in Whole Foods a few weeks ago, makes me wonder how popular it is. Candy cane hot chocolate! I bought this to try in with my hot chocolate whipped cream! I had to do it. They had a HUGE display with Hostess donettes and coffee cakes for only $2. My boyfriend loves donettes, and I know, like the rest of Americans, that we ran around to all local grocery stores to stockpile anything we could find after hearing the were going bankrupt. We used as much self control as we could muster, we made it out with only 8 boxes.

I cruised through the “gift section” in the food aisles as well. Of course, there is the standard hot chocolate gift baskets and candy gift baskets, but I figured I would share the oddest one I found and my favorite one. Buffalo wings? Seriously? I guess anything can be made into a gift basket these days. The second basket has cake mix, chocolate truffle cocoa mix, shortbread cookies and Nutella-to-go. I LOVE Nutella. I thought this would make a cute gift for a baker.
Is anyone finding anything good out there I should check out? Let me know!
Marshmallows! I honestly am not a huge marshmallow fan, but I can’t resist all the holiday marshmallows. They are perfect for hot chocolate, gingerbread houses, and flavored rice krispies treats! This weeks marshmallows are: French Vanilla, Gingerbread, Peppermint and holiday shapes!
Marshmallows for Foodies
Christmas, more than any holiday, seems to be an excuse for everyday foods to be covered in chocolate. I mean Ritz crackers with chocolate? Come on! I felt like this year there were more flavors of Oreos than I have ever seen before! I couldn’t resist the Mint Fudge Oreos; one because I love mint and two because they are ready to shred! Has anyone ever tried muddy buddies Chex Mix? I resisted the urge to pick a bag of these up, but I absolutely wanted to go home and make some. Lastly, Mrs. Fields chocolate covered cookie dough, because who doesn’t love cookie dough?
Hurry and pick up some of these before the holiday season ends!
Today’s last Foodie Finds are gifts for foodies at Target! Oink talking timer! Also available in the cow version for $9.99. Kitchen Kong, you can never have enough whisks! Kitchen Kong sells for $6.99. Munchstaches. These are candy molds and cookie cutters for $9.99. I see mustaches popping up all over the foodie blogs these days. Lastly, Ninjabread men, Hi-Ya! These awesome cookies cutters sell for $14.99!
Fun gifts for foodies!
Okay, I have to admit, I am becoming addicted to my foodie finds. Maybe it’s the holiday shopping fever, maybe it has to do with finally starting my blog, who knows. Regardless, I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
Cake Boss! Who doesn’t love this show!
The cake boss is in town! Well I guess he is in many towns now, since this display was in my local grocery store! They are $25 and there were two cake design options, I think I prefer the balloons.
So much fun stuff!
Mission Sweet cinnamon and sugar tortilla chips. I must admit I was tempted, but I held back. One day I will come back for you.
The perfect Tortilla bowl molds! I was at Los Agaves (my favorite Mexican restaurant in Santa Barbara) recently and they are now serving some of their dishes in these awesome tortilla bowls. I must have them, only $10.99.
Pie bite press at target for $9.99. I think I am going to have a very hard time trying not to buy a dozen things every time I go into target. I feel like I have to walk the Christmas section every time I go in, so I don’t miss anything. Let me know if you have ever tried something like this, I am very curious.
Bakery boxes in the dollar bins! You can’t really beat that deal. There were several different colors, I grabbed all of the snowflakes ones. It comes with a divider so you can put four cupcakes or different types of cookies in them. Now I have to look for them every time I go dangit!
